In this pivotal time, AI has automated our workflows away, to the point where our creations are no longer our own, and corporate watermarks hide in every pixel.
As creators we balance on a fine edge, battling back the goblins of AI. We grapple to remain in control of the visions as they come, and in the process fall back into the slot machine of death, accepting aesthetics and visions that are not our own.
In the face of this, I watched the joy of creating art drain slowly from my life with every pull of the AI slot machine. Until it finally hit a nerve, and I resolved to create a tool to take back the creative power.
This is 360 Hextile.
In creating 360 Hextile, I did my best to craft a native 360 workflow where I can render on my own GPU and remain in control of the details while reducing the slavery of repetitive strain. I found a way to use AI to truly follow the stroke of my creative wanderings, from directional prompting, to the spot editor, to the layer tools, and the many other tools I crafted into Hextile to help me finely craft and detail my work.
As an artist with blistering turnaround times, working without AI is no longer an option. This project has forced me to navigate ethical lines, and to honor all those artists' work who went into the weights.
To all the master artists who inspired me, whose work AI has trained on, I want to tell you: it was not all to be cast into the darkness of the slot machine. You provided the fuel to wield the torch of human imagination.
And finally arriving here with this release, I feel it has brought me closer to telling the stories I want to tell in this life.
I started building Hextile in 2024. After thousands of hours, and many thousands of dollars invested in compute, I am finally able to bring it to you in 2026, with the support of other creators and collaborators.
Now I am committed to making this tool the best, as it is a primary factor in my own dome show creations, and to continue to create and push updates as I evolve the tool to my needs. It is a work in progress, and I invite you to join the Discord and give me your feedback. Together we can improve it — with your ideas and with your bug reports — to make it the best it can be.
